Applications for the Future of Food scholarship program are now open to undergraduate students

The Future of Food: Opportunities and Careers for Undergraduate Scholarship Program is seeking candidates for this research and extension experience for undergraduate students in the summer of 2023.

The USDA-funded F2OCUS Fellowship Program aims to provide undergraduate students with experiential learning opportunities to increase their understanding of the future of food systems as it relates to improving safety, the quality and safety of our food supply through knowledge sharing, capacity building and leadership development. . This program is specifically designed for undergraduate students seeking a non-food science degree.

As part of the scholarship program, undergraduate student scholarship recipients will participate in experiential learning activities that will result in:

  • Development of technical skills in research related to food sciences
  • Creation of a new food product with a team of F2OCUS scholarship holders
  • Engagement in internships with food industry and cooperative extension partners

Undergraduate Student Scholars will also develop leadership and communication skills by:

  • Connect with current leaders in the food industry
  • Cultivate professional leadership skills
  • Develop communication skills to prepare for their future career

The F2OCUS Summer Fellowship Program 2023 runs for 10 weeks, from May 30 to August 4. Applications are due Friday, January 13, 2023, and decisions will be made by Friday, January 27, 2023. Each student awarded the F2OCUS scholarship will receive a $5,000 stipend, in addition to room and board and additional financial support for necessary travel.
