Arc Herkimer Receives Grant for Innovative Distribution Center Candidate Training Program

HERKIMER — Arc Herkimer recently received an $81,848 grant from the M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank Charitable Fund for a new fulfillment center candidate training program within the agency’s Herkimer Industries division.

“We cannot thank M&T Bank/Partners Trust enough for bringing this idea to life to build relationships between Herkimer Industries, local distribution centers and members of our community,” said Mike Lamb, Vice President – Industrial Operations, Herkimer Arch. “We are pleased that our goals are aligned to help people with disabilities and veterans gain a set of industrial skills that can prepare them for sustainable careers.”

The M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank charity fund considers projects with the potential to have a lasting impact. Funds have been granted to pay the salaries of nine candidates to attend the DCCTP for the first 12 months. The program will run in three rotations in the first year, with three candidates each spending 16 weeks in training positions. Candidates will alternate between Herkimer Industries locations with locations in Herkimer, Little Falls and Ilion.

Each location will provide on-the-job training in picking, packing, shipping, forklift certification, scaling, packaging and warehousing operations. Candidates will work alongside other Herkimer Industries professionals for peer-to-peer mentorship.

At the end of their rotation, they will be connected with Arc Herkimer’s Career Connections for long-term support and employment assistance.
