How to Join the PS5 Beta Program and Test the Latest Features First

While Xbox has its Insiders program, Sony fans aren’t left out of testing new features through the PS5 Beta program. Just like Xbox Insiders, PS5 beta members learn about the latest features before anyone else and provide valuable feedback.

Sony generally offers fewer builds than you’d find on Xbox, but they’re more substantial. The July PS5 beta, for example, came with support for 1440p display output, new UI elements, audio features, and more. So it’s worth it if you’re okay with running unfinished software on your console.

But who can register? And how do you do?

Who can sign up for the PS5 Beta program?

PS5 games list feature

The simple answer is that somebody is eligible for the PS5 Beta program with some caveats. The most important is the location. You must be in the United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany or France to register. Other than that, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must have a valid PSN account in good standing with a current email address.

You must also agree to provide feedback to Sony as they request. It seems like a lot, but it doesn’t take a lot of time and that’s important. Feedback is what helps improve the PS5 experience for everyone.

Guest accounts, child accounts and offline accounts are not eligible.

How to Join the PS5 Beta Program

PS5 beta update

If you are eager to participate, registration is very simple. Just head over to the PS5 program beta website and click Register now. You will be asked to sign in with your PSN account. And that’s all. From there, it’s time to play the waiting game.

It’s also worth pointing out that signing up for the PS5 Beta program doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll have access to it. If you are selected, you will be notified by email with your invitation to join. Your access to the PS5 Beta is tied to your PSN account, so there’s no way you can trick your console into accessing it. Just be patient and hopeful.

If you are lucky enough to be selected when the email arrives, just follow the detailed steps and you will be able to download the latest version to your console. You should receive a code to redeem on your PS5 console that will unlock access.

From there, you’ll navigate to the console’s update settings in order to download the software:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select System software > System software update and settings.
  4. You should see an option to Update System Software (Beta).

You will only see the last option if you have been successfully accepted into the program and access has been enabled on your console. As new PS5 beta updates, you will see a notification next to Update System Software (Beta) to download and install rather than the regular system update area.

Also, if you’ve already been signed up for the PS5 beta, you don’t need to sign up again. Just check your inbox for a new code to download the latest version. Undisclosed parts of the PS5 beta are under NDA, so be careful what you share online.

The PS5 is still hard to get, but it’s undeniably one of the best ways to play right now. Sony’s library continues to impress and has big hits on the way.
