Mitchell Community College and Metro Electric Contracting Corp. announced a new partnership under the college’s Iredell Apprenticeship program.

The Iredell Apprenticeship, created in the fall of 2020, is a work-based learning opportunity with the goal of developing highly skilled workers in fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program offers Mitchell students the opportunity to be hired by an industry partner to gain on-the-job training while simultaneously receiving classroom instruction from the college.

Darren DeGouff, Master Electrician, was on hand to represent Metro Electric, an electrical company specializing in residential and commercial services.

“It gives us great pleasure to be part of such an important partnership with Mitchell Community College,” said DeGouff. “We promise to do our best to train the apprentice we hire.”

As part of the Iredell Apprenticeship Program, Metro Electric will offer a professional residential wireworker opportunity to an interested student, combined with the Electrical System Certificate or Electrical Systems Diploma to complete the related instruction needed.
