Medi-Call Launches AI-Assisted Mental Health Program to Prevent Suicide

(“Nexalogy“), partners with Medi-Call Inc. (“Medi-Call“), to combat the suicide epidemic.

Medi-Call will use Nexalogy’s automated AI social media reporting technologies (“CLEVER“) to filter and identify patterns from online social media posts to detect those who may be suffering from mental illness and may need help. Nexalogy’s SMART AI tool can collect sets of information in minutes and can filter through hundreds of thousands of social media documents to detect social posts surrounding mental health and suicide.

There is growing evidence supporting the idea that social media can influence suicide-related behaviors with cyberbullying and cyberstalking online. Data from a survey of approximately 2,000 children showed that victims of cyberbullying were almost two (2) times more likely to attempt suicide. In another survey, data suggests that 68% of children have experienced online bullying that led to mental health issues. Cyberbullying is twice as likely to trigger suicidal thoughts in victims. Over 40% of cyberbullying occurs via online social media platforms, such as Instagram and 71% of respondents felt that social media platforms were not doing enough to tackle the problem of bullying in line. Additionally, Bark, a social media parental control app, saw a 25% increase in self-harm discussions among teens online.
