The Government of Canada reports that an average of 10 Canadians die every day by suicide. This amounts to approximately 4,000 suicide deaths per year and is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults. There is growing evidence supporting the idea that social media can influence suicide-related behaviors with cyberbullying and cyberstalking online. Data from a survey of approximately 2,000 children showed that victims of cyberbullying were almost two (2) times more likely to attempt suicide. Cyberbullying can increase suicide risk by increasing feelings of isolation, emotional and psychological distress, and instability. Source: (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3477910/)
In another survey, data suggests that 68% of children have experienced online bullying that led to mental health issues. Cyberbullying is twice as likely to trigger suicidal thoughts in victims. Over 40% of cyberbullying occurs via online social media platforms, such as Instagram and 71% of respondents felt that social media platforms were not doing enough to tackle the problem of bullying in line. Using Nexalogy’s Smart AI tool, the company can detect those who post and prevent mental harm, suicide and other mental health issues that can lead to suicide by offering Medi-mental health services and support. Call.
“The latest data shows that people are struggling with mental health issues more than ever. ACSM data suggests that 37% of British Columbians’ mental health has declined during the pandemic. With Medi-Call, our AI solutions can help detect those who are hurting and help find a solution,” said Marshall Gunter, CEO of the company.
“There is an urgent need for mental health support and health care in Canada. The Canadian Institute for Health Information has reported that half of Canadians have waited up to 1 month for mental health services, while one in 10 have waited more than 4 months for care. -Call’s mission is to fill this gap so that patients can receive the treatment and support they need,” said Dr. Omar Sharif, the company’s medical director.
SMART reduces the time needed to interpret and integrate large datasets by providing powerful automated analytics. Rather than replacing the human analyst, it sets the parameters for data collection via keywords and other social media information (e.g. usernames and links). This helps identify data that needs extraction and analysis. SMART extracts relevant data and produces automated reports, allowing customers to work with a more manageable set of information. SMART allows an analyst to process hundreds of thousands of social media documents in minutes rather than hours or days.
Analysts can specify filters on data to get automatic reports on subsets of data focused on specific times, entities, social media users, or topics. The resulting reports are delivered as PDF, DOC or via API for further processing. Report generation can be scheduled to occur at regular intervals or to be triggered by specific changes in the conversation (for example, a sudden increase in volume or an increase in mentions of a particular named entity).
Finally, SMART analysis helps the user easily access the required information and helps detect patterns that are currently unrecognized. This is necessary both in the context of the “short game” of crisis reporting and the “long game” of identifying narratives, as outlined in the BEND (Build Engage Neutralize Distract) framework.
