New Jersey AAM Board Certification Training, PMU Apprenticeship Program
The apprenticeship will allow students to perform 9 procedures under the direct supervision of experts to perfect their permanent makeup (PMU) techniques and gain confidence with clients. The Edgewater-based clinic has successfully coached over 260 students, offering five training courses alongside its range of micropigmentation and beauty services.

This update aims to provide aspiring artists with the essential skills required to start building their own clientele, in response to the growing demand and new trends in the PMU industry.
Permanent makeup like eyeliner, lip blush, and eyebrow tattooing is a convenient and time-saving alternative to regular makeup. To legally perform these procedures on New Jersey clients, PMU artists must be certified by the AAM. This involves completing the 100 hours of SPCP or AAM approved micropigmentation training, an online apprenticeship and exam.
The Hudson Beauty Bar Apprenticeship Program brings students one step closer to achieving their AAM Board certification. Each student practices on 9 models, giving them extensive experience with different skin types, designs and demands. The clinic recommends apprentices find their own role models to begin marketing their services.
Apprentices benefit from the direction and feedback of a qualified instructor. This training can also be extremely valuable for artists who have graduated from PMU who wish to deepen their knowledge and learn about new techniques and technological developments.
To be eligible for enrollment, students must have completed an SPCP or AAM approved 100-hour micropigmentation training course, which is also offered by the clinic. The program then builds on students’ basic abilities, helping them to create professional portfolios featuring a total of 15 procedures.
The lead instructor for the program and founder of the clinic is Esther Yim, an aesthetics graduate who became a PMU Qualified Artist in 2013. She is now a platinum instructor by the AAM, as well as a trainer member for the SPCP. Esther is a regular PMU customer herself and is committed to keeping up to date with the latest beauty trends.
A spokesperson said: “Our mission at Hudson Beauty Bar is not just to help people feel better about themselves, but to help anyone who wants to change their life by showing them a new career that ‘they’ll like it.’
