Nitin Gadkari inaugurates free equipment and materials distribution program in South Nagpur

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari said it is our government’s endeavor to reach every last person in the society, help them in their development and serve them.

Inaugurating a program of free distribution of equipment and materials to elderly and disabled people in South Nagpur today under the National Vayoshree and ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons) Program of the Central Government with the Minister of Union for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, said Shri Gadkari we are committed to the program.

In 2016, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government enacted the Disability Rights in the Country Act. Keeping this in mind, screening camps were organized for the elderly and the disabled from February 27 to April 23, 2022 under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana in which about 36,000 people including 28,000 in the city of Nagpur and 8 000 in rural Nagpur have been screened and 2 lakh 41 thousand equipment and materials will be distributed to them all. The total cost of all these tools and materials is Rs 34.83 crore.

Programs are being organized in the six Nagpur city assembly constituencies for the distribution of these devices, today is the first program in this series. A total of 66,000 devices have been donated to 9,018 beneficiaries from Dakshin Nagpur Assembly constituency, the combined cost of which is over Rs 9 crore.

43 types of these devices mainly include tools and equipment such as three-wheeled bicycles (manually operated), wheelchairs, canes, digital hearing aids, smart phones with screen reading for the visually impaired, boxes braille (folding boxes) as well as prosthetic arms and legs.
