No. 11 Lady Buffs Clinch Schedule for 20th LSC Regular Season Title

CANYON, Texas – For the first time since 2014, the No. 11 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs were crowned the Lone Star Conference regular season champions on Friday night after defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville in four sets to clinch 20 in the program.e Title.

Numbers

TAMUK started with a first-set victory, but the Lady Buffs came back to claim three straight wins to claim the conference title. Both schools were tied on the field in almost every statistical aspect, with both programs recording 59 eliminations and 55 assists. WT hit .237 on the night with 23 errors from 152 attempts while the Javelinas hit .241 with 21 errors from 158 attempts. WT had 72 digs, seven blocks and six service aces. TAMUK had 59 digs, 11 blocks and two aces.

Junior Torrey Miller had a record 18 game-breaking wins in the win, hitting .304 on 46 swings with four errors to go alone with 16 digs for his 43rd career double-double. Kayla Elliott also hit double-digit wins with 12 and a team-high .455 completion percentage as a sophomore Blair Moreland and Ainsley Malis guided the offense, collecting 50 assists. On defense, three Lady Buffs hit double-digit digs led by Bryli Contreras with 18 followed by Miller and Abi Nash with 10. Senior Kayla Elliott totaled five blocks in the night followed by Samantha Jordan and Ashlyn Vineyard each with two.

For the Javelinas, Madelyn Wallace hit .353 to lead the offense with 17 kills on 34 attempts with five errors while Sydney Whitmore had 30 assists. Like the Lady Buffs, three players recorded double-digit digs with Nicole Murff with a team high of 16 followed by Jackie Alanis Meghan Stiefer with 13 each while Kailey Estrada produced a team high of six blocks on the night.

  • WT are 15-0 in Lone Star Conference play for the first time since 2014 when the Lady Buffs finished a perfect 16-0 to claim the regular season title, first under Kendra Potts

The Lady Buffs will face Texas A&M International in the regular season finale tomorrow afternoon at The Box. The first service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. for Club Volleyball Day.

As regular season champions, WT will host the Lone Star Conference Tournament with the quarterfinal games scheduled for November 10, followed by the semifinals on November 11 and the championship game on November 12.
