Plaza relaunches free walk program

A long-standing health initiative has been relaunched in a major shopping center.

The Healthy Heart Walkers group has been renewed at Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, after a two-year absence.

Morning walkers had gathered at the center twice a week for over 20 years, before it shut down due to COVID.

Now he’s back under the guidance of local fitness expert, Nina Brisenmark.

The free program, located inside the center on level 1, runs Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:30 to 8:30.

Walks are enjoyed in air-conditioned comfort, with minimal risk of trips and falls, providing a safe environment for avid walkers who wish to exercise regularly indoors and in a social environment.

Ms. Brisenmark said she was delighted to be involved.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Healthy Heart Walkers program,” she said.

“As a coach, exercising can be fun and it’s important to stay active at any age.

“Walking is the perfect way to maintain health and well-being, meet new people or connect with friends each week.”

Walkers Jimmit Marlow, Wendy Pearce, Gwenyth Zwaan and Barbara Doherty with Plaza Manager Michael Manwaring.

The centre’s director, Michael Manwaring, said the initiative was very beneficial for the participants.

The walking group is again enjoying early morning exercise around the center before it opens,” he said.

“Being part of the Healthy Heart Walkers is a great way to stay physically active, improve your everyday mood, but also an opportunity to socialize with other like-minded people.

“Walkers can set their own pace, do as many circuits as they want and there are plenty of opportunities to rest along the way.
