Sydney’s City Recital Hall announces 2023 program featuring Peaches, Emma Donovan and more

Sydney’s City Recital Hall has announced its inaugural 2023 season, dubbed ’01 | 23′

The season will run from January 19 to March 24. Emma Donovan and Paul Grabowsky will kick off the season with their joint ode to country gospel history, followed by a performance by New Zealand’s The Chills in February.

Meanwhile, Peaches will take the stage at Recital Hall as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of her album “The Teaches of Peaches,” which she will perform in full. The performance is part of the season’s Sydney WorldPride festivities, which will also feature singer, songwriter and actor Nakhane.

Yann Tiersen will also appear throughout the month of the season, with Tiersen’s performance marking his first Australian show in five years. Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn, ‘Woven Song’ by Deborah Cheetham, and Monolake and Electric Indigo complete the program.

Celebrating 50 years since the formation of Neu!, the group’s co-founder, Michael Rother, will perform at City Recital Hall on March 23. See the full ’01 schedule | 23′ season below. Tickets for the venue’s first season are available now here.

Ahead of its first season, City Recital Hall will be the first Australian venue to install a 360-degree spatial audio system, which programming director Stuart Rogers says “provides an incredible foundation for creating elevated contemporary musical experiences”.

He continued in a press release, “As a curator, I am committed to showcasing artists who connect deeply with audiences, and I have seen or worked with each of the artists represented in our inaugural season. Ultimately, we connect one of the best stages in the world with the most fascinating and charismatic artists in the world.

The program is divided into three categories that maximize room sound (Singular Voices), lighting (Alight), or a combination of both (sound and vision). This year, the City Recital Hall has hosted performances by Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin, Astronaut Alex, Paul Kelly, Cedric Burnside and Martha Marlow, among others.
