Vacation Incubator Program to Help Small Businesses Explore Downtown Retail Businesses Rent-Free

SAN ANTONIO – A new incubator program will give small businesses in San Antonio the chance to explore retail over the holidays without having to pay rent in a downtown space.

Centro San Antonio is a local nonprofit that works to make downtown more beautiful, prosperous, and fun.

“If you’ve ever been downtown, you’ve probably seen our ambassadors. They are wonderful men and women in yellow uniforms who keep our city clean and beautiful,” said Kailey DeLuca, Main Street Navigator for Centro San Antonio. “We also do place-making and economic development programs and activations.”

The organization is accepting applications through August 31 for its new Holidays on Houston Street incubator program.

“The Holidays and Houston Street program offers local makers, artisans, artists and small businesses the opportunity to appear completely free of charge in available retail space at one of our downtown real estate partners along Houston Street. “, said DeLuca during a KSAT. She said the program would allow small business owners to explore the realities of running retail stores with less risk.

“I hope they decide that, you know, ‘Retail is the next step for my business. I’m ready and I want to move downtown. So this really gives small business owners an opportunity without risk or low risk to explore retail and activate and energize the downtown space for the holidays,” DeLuca said.

She said Centro San Antonio seeks all types of businesses for the incubator program, but it will benefit those with some experience selling in local markets the most.

We are really looking for companies that have some experience. They know what it’s like to be in a market, but they’re just willing to expand their horizons but aren’t quite ready to sign a five- or 10-year lease,” DeLuca said.

The incubator program will run from November 2022 to January 2023. Companies have until August 31 to submit an application to Centro San Antonio.
